Our trip to Rhode Island!

Hello again SEAD family and Friends!

College application season is upon us for our Eastie SEAD scholars and seniors, so to kick it off I'm here to feature some of the highlights of our trip to Rhode Island College this month!

We did a full campus tour, including each departmental building, and even one of the new dorms on campus!  Later in the day, we also had a free lunch provided by Viga, sponsored by RIC and Talent Search. This visit couldn't have been more useful for getting our students to envision themselves on a college campus a year from now!

Thanks for attending Jakara, Ronaldo, Alex, JP, and Miguel!
Our tour guide a Business and Management student giving us an overview of where we were located on campus during the tour

Miguel observes and appreciates black and white prints in the Art Building

Jakara and Ronaldo chatting as we made our way around campus for the tour

Can't wait for this week's adventures!

Fall Soccer Wins!

Hi again SEAD family and friends!

Here at Eastie the days are rolling merrily along, and our fabulous scholars are settled in to their courses and schedules.  I've been enjoying sitting in on their classes and relishing the enthusiastic, unexpected office drop-ins from the students. The highlight of this week though was the spontaneous invite to Pam's soccer game last Friday.  Though I only got to stay for the first half of the game, I wasn't surprised to hear thabet the lady Jets defeated their challengers!

It was such a lovely day out!
Thanks for inviting me Pam and congrats on the win!

Hope you are all having a lovely week!

Cheers for our leading ladies!

Hope you all enjoyed the long, warm weekend!

Thanks to the scholars for welcoming the SEAD Leadership team to Eastie, the meetings with each of you made each moment of the visit well worth it!   My only regret is that our scheduled SEAD family dinner wasn't able to take place due to the major conflict with the NHS family dinner. Nonetheless, parents, please feel free to reach out to me if you would like to talk and get up to speed on where the scholars are at with me!

Featured this week we have Jakara for being a leader last Friday and bringing the college application process to her peers in her classes' off hour!  She came to my office and asked for materials to get her class started on picking colleges of interest.

Amazing job for taking the reigns on getting your peers up to speed for college apps Jakara!!

Last week, I was also privy to Eastie's drama club giving me a sneak peek of their school-wide performance this coming November.

Starring our fabulous resident starlet, Alex Mitchell!

Eating it up!

Hi again Eastie scholars, family, and friends!

I've been having a blast continuing to get to know the scholars, and I know the SEAD Eastie families and scholars are very much looking forward to the SEAD Leadership visit and SEAD family dinner taking place tomorrow (this Wednesday!) at 5:30pm in the EBHS Library Conference room!

Just last week, on Friday after school Alex and I were talking about her classes and the fact that she's already finished the common application and her personal statement...!  So in celebration we spontaneously decided to go to Misono, a Korean restaurant in downtown Boston to explore and entertain our tastebuds.  It was absolutely delicious!

Once again hope to see SEAD friends and family at the SEAD Leadership dinner tomorrow night!

A Creative Start

So this past week, I've been taking the time to get to know the SEAD scholars and giving them the low down on the college checklist they need to have on their minds in the midst of their schoolwork.

After school on Wednesday, I was privy to see Denise in her creative zone, she was in her AP Art studio with some friends finishing up a painting assignment due for the week.  As an art major, it warmed my heart seeing her so focused and so productive and artsy last week!

I'm very much looking forward to catching up with the other scholars in their favorite spaces, doing their favorite things!

That's all for now

A Joyous Arrival

I can't believe how incredible my first two days have been at Eastie!

I arrived at the school simultaneously nervous and excited to meet the scholars and my excitement and optimism prevailed!

I was so glad to see Alex and Denise there at the office quite early--before I got there!  And later in the day I met with Pam, Miguel, Ronaldo, and JP, all of whom I can't wait to get to know and support during this Fall's college journey.  Just met up with Jakara today too and I'm hopeful to meet with Ke'Andre tomorrow!

Looking forward to posting pictures of you all having fun and getting your college applications ready!

Much more to say next week without a doubt!

Meet the SEAD Fall 2015 Intern!

Hello there Eastie students and SEAD scholars!

I'm Beverly Alomepe, a junior at Dartmouth College and I'll be the SEAD Intern at East Boston High this Fall.  I'll be available to all of you at school this coming Monday, September 21st!  I'm looking forward to getting to know you, your hobbies, and dreams, as well as being an academic and college resource to you this semester (and beyond if you'd like!).  So please come stop by to see me on Monday, as you can tell by the endless barrage of exclamation marks, I'm quite excited to meet you!

So a little about myself...

I'm a Studio Art major with a focus on Painting and Architecture hoping to either become an architect and/or go to medical school.  I'm from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and of Cameroonian descent (my parents immigrated from Cameroon, Central Africa).  My beloved hobbies are problem-solving and gaming (board games, puzzles, Steam games, etc.).   I also work at the Costume Shop in the theater department and do qualitative research in a Spaceflight Medicine lab on campus.

Hope to see you soon!
