Weekend Recap!
On Saturday, Juan Pablo took a Practice ACT test with me at the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center! It was a great opportunity for him to try the ACT and see if it is a better fit for him than the SAT. Additionally, he liked having the practice of taking a test in real testing conditions. I'm proud of him for using his Saturday morning to take this test and better prepare himself for the standardized tests he will be taking at the end of this school year!
On Sunday, Alex, Denise, and I went to H Mart, a Korean food market in Cambridge. Both of them are very interested in Korean culture and frequently watch Korean dramas. Alex is even considering studying Korean literature and culture in college. It great to see them so happy and excited to see all the different foods they had seen in the TV shows they watch! We ate lunch there and then decided to take a walk around Central Square. On our walk, we discovered this really cool art gallery. It is a co-op that sells local artists' works and hosts music shows every weekend. Denise really enjoyed the gallery and said she would love to go back and take pictures of the art work displayed. We took a business card so that she can go back another time!

Lunch at H Mart!

Funny faces at the art gallery

Such a cool art gallery!

One of my favorite pieces!

Love the colors in this one.

They also had a bunch of these masks that I thought were interesting!

Week 9's SEAD Shoutout goes to Denise!

Denise attends a photography class at the Museum of Fine Arts. For the next two weeks, her class has been cancelled due to students' low attendance. During this interim period, Denise has decided to pursue her own independent art projects to keep improving even though their is no class. She reached out to the school art teacher and he will be mentoring her during these two weeks. I am so proud of Denise for continuing to follow her passions!

Week 8's SEAD Shoutout goes to Ke'Andre!
Ke'Andre has been working hard to improve his attendance this term. Although the snow storms and subsequent train delays and service disruptions have made getting to school on time difficult, Ke'Andre has been persistent in trying to make it to school on time. He has also been proactive in asking his English teacher for missing assignments and worked out a schedule with her after school to make up for any absences caused by his tardiness. Additionally, Ke'Andre is part of the school's varsity basketball team that competed in States last week after winning the City championship! Way to go Ke'Andre!

When: Saturday, March 7th
Start time: 11:30am (don’t be late)
End time: Testing will take a little over 3 and half hours. We should be done around 3pm.
Where: East Boston Neighborhood Health Center (250 Sumner St)

This is mandatory and you will get 10 College Knowledge points for participating, as well as dinner and bowling afterwards!

What I expect:
If you come, I expect you to stay for the entire test (all 3.5 hours). I expect you to treat this practice test like a real test. I expect you to take me seriously and follow the rules of the test. I expect you to respect the break schedule. I expect you to try your best!

What you should expect:
You should expect a test environment that is as similar as possible to the real ACT. There will be no cell phones. You will be sitting in the same room for 3.5 hours, in the same seat, with two 5-minute breaks out of the whole testing time. You should expect to get a real feel for what taking the ACT for real will be like. It is good to practice managing stress and time in these conditions so that you are better prepared for the real ACT!

YOU NEED TO BRING A CALCULATOR!

If you do not have/cannot find or borrow a calculator, please let me know by the end of the day on Thursday!

SEAD Visitors and Alex's Play!
On Thursday of last week we had two SEAD visitors at Eastie! Roberto, the intern from Raymond High School came up for the day to see what Eastie is all about. Sawyer, a past intern from Eastie also came by on Thursday. It was fun to have them at school and the students really enjoyed coming by the office to chat with them and seeing them in some of their classes. I really got the SEAD family feeling seeing everyone come together!
After school, Roberto and I watch the dress rehearsal of the play Alex has been working so hard on. The play, Nightmare!, was much darker than I was expecting, but really impacted both Roberto and I. The student acting was superb! I was blown away by how prepared the students were. They went on to perform for the state drama festival on Saturday, where two of the seniors received awards for outstanding acting and their stage manager was recognized for her hard work as well. I'm proud of the dedication Alex has put into the production!
Having some fun time with Sawyer and Roberto on Thursday!
