Total bittersweet moment now thinking that the end of my time has come with East Boston High School. The East Boston scholars are phenomenal students and people. I am really excited to see where they go to college and how they continue to flourish and grow. They are all in the final stretch and really trying to end on a strong note. Keep up the good work and best of luck to them all and I will miss you!

Quiet Week

It's been a pretty quiet week this past week as the internship is winding down. Last week the students had the chance to go to Dave and Busters with myself and the Raymond intern, Jake. Pam showed up and we had a blast winning tickets and prizes. We played Wheel of Fortune, Zombie Apocalypse, Dance Dance Revolution and many other games until we were sweating and our arms sore. The food at Dave and Busters was awesome and put us all in a food coma.
In news about school many of the students are making strides to bring up there grades and maintain good ones. Special shout out to Ke'Andre for bringing up his AP Calculus grade. In the field of drams a shout out to Alex (and her drama club) who debuted her play with the rest of the drama club. Although they didn't not win their competition they did a phenomenal job and should be quite proud. Finally a big shout out to Jakara who has finished her high school education and thus graduated early! Great work girl!!!!

Final Count Down!
The end of Quarter 1 has finally come and the seniors are buckling down for the final stretch. Many of the students are working to makeup assignments and and study for their final exams. I am hosting tutoring sessions during this week for all students to make sure that they finish all their assignments and have adequate time to study for their finals.
Shout out to Jakara who has really kicked butt and pulled up her grades substantially. GO GIRL!
The students are in the final throws of completing all FASFA and CSS profiles and although many of them are tired of the college application process they are really finishing up strong. I am really proud of the work that all the students are doing, they are really putting their best foot forward.
Many of the students are looking forward to the the small reunion myself and the Raymond Intern are planning at Dave and Busters the weekend of February 20th.

Let It Snow...Money!
After the long holiday
weekend, the students came back refreshed and ready to finish up the college
application process. Pamela and Denise have completely finished all aspects of
their college application process and are just working on their scholarships!
All the other SEAD students should be done by the end of the week and be able
to focus on getting scholarships for their schools.
Two students, Alex and
Miguel have been accepted into colleges over the weekend and were proud to
share their success with the SEAD team. We are looking forward to more students
hearing back from their colleges.
I am planning an all day
trip for the SEAD students to Dave and Busters on February 19th. Most of the
students have expressed excitement and interest in the trip.
The goal is to have all
students done with the application process before the next big snow storm this
weekend!!! After that all the students will be applying for scholarships!!!
Brace for the cold!!!

Newbie
Three days into Eastie and the nerves are gone! I am really happy
to be here and get to know the students. There are some really colorful characters here which I love. I have had
the chance to meet with almost everyone, but we will see each other later today. The scholars and I have started our one on one meetings and setting up STUDY HALL! It is great to see that many of the
students are on top of the grades or know how to improve them. This is a really
independent lot and they are going to do great in college.
I have some really cool stuff planned with
the students like Dave and Busters, movies, museums, HUZZAH Tavern Nights (historical reenactment) and college visits for this winter.
I look forward to telling you'll more soon!
Cheers,
Chrissy

Hey Eastie!
Hello All!
My name is Christina “Chrissy” Ragin. I am a junior at Dartmouth College and this winter’s SEAD intern. I am a History major at Dartmouth with a minor in Theatre Arts. I am 21 years old and from Washington Heights in Manhattan, New York. I am the head of the Black Underground Theatre Association (BUTA) and on the executive board of the African American Society. I also enjoy swimming making clothes and classic books.
I have had the pleasure of meeting the students at the reunion in the fall and look forward to getting to know them better on a personal level especially as you begin a new chapter and the end of your senior year!! This term will come with many important decisions for families and students and I hope to be a good and reliable resource starting on THURSDAY, JANUARY 8th, 2016. Feel totally free to come by the office on Friday, I cannot wait to see you guys! I am available all the time via text, call or email. Farewell for now Eastie!
Hi Eastie Scholars and Families,
I had so much fun attending reunion with Jakara, Ronaldo, Ke'Andre, Pam, Alex, and Denise last week! We enjoyed ourselves so much and got to reconnect with previous and current members of the SEAD family. The goodbyes were heartwarming, hope you see each other again this coming summer before you all head off to college!
My ten weeks here have gone by so quickly, I really can't believe that by Thursday my stay with you will be over.
I'm extremely thankful for the time I've had with you, and will remember the special times each one of you came to visit me in the College Access office to brighten my day.
I hope I was able to do the same for you!
Come by to see me by or before Thursday so we can say our proper goodbyes!
Farewell Eastie Scholars!

Go Celtics!
Hi SEAD family, friends, and scholars!
The Eastie students have been working so hard this October, compiling recommendations and starting essays for their selected colleges, not to mention working hard to prep for the SAT this coming weekend, Saturday, November 7th!
In the meantime, I've been scheduling events to reward their hard work. We attended the Celtics vs 76ers game on October 28th. The Celtics won! JP, Ronaldo, and I had a fantastic time celebrating each point of the victory, Celtics 112, 76ers 95!
One scholar in particular has been putting immense effort and focus on preparing for his SAT. I took him out to Angela's Cafe to commensurate his diligence....
Great work this month Ronaldo!
Have a lovely November everyone!

Our trip to Rhode Island!
Hello again SEAD family and Friends!
College application season is upon us for our Eastie SEAD scholars and seniors, so to kick it off I'm here to feature some of the highlights of our trip to Rhode Island College this month!
We did a full campus tour, including each departmental building, and even one of the new dorms on campus! Later in the day, we also had a free lunch provided by Viga, sponsored by RIC and Talent Search. This visit couldn't have been more useful for getting our students to envision themselves on a college campus a year from now!
Thanks for attending Jakara, Ronaldo, Alex, JP, and Miguel!
Our tour guide a Business and Management student giving us an overview of where we were located on campus during the tour
Miguel observes and appreciates black and white prints in the Art Building
Jakara and Ronaldo chatting as we made our way around campus for the tour
Can't wait for this week's adventures!

Fall Soccer Wins!
Hi again SEAD family and friends!
Here at Eastie the days are rolling merrily along, and our fabulous scholars are settled in to their courses and schedules. I've been enjoying sitting in on their classes and relishing the enthusiastic, unexpected office drop-ins from the students. The highlight of this week though was the spontaneous invite to Pam's soccer game last Friday. Though I only got to stay for the first half of the game, I wasn't surprised to hear thabet the lady Jets defeated their challengers!
It was such a lovely day out!

Cheers for our leading ladies!
Hope you all enjoyed the long, warm weekend!
Thanks to the scholars for welcoming the SEAD Leadership team to Eastie, the meetings with each of you made each moment of the visit well worth it! My only regret is that our scheduled SEAD family dinner wasn't able to take place due to the major conflict with the NHS family dinner. Nonetheless, parents, please feel free to reach out to me if you would like to talk and get up to speed on where the scholars are at with me!
Featured this week we have Jakara for being a leader last Friday and bringing the college application process to her peers in her classes' off hour! She came to my office and asked for materials to get her class started on picking colleges of interest.
Amazing job for taking the reigns on getting your peers up to speed for college apps Jakara!!

Last week, I was also privy to Eastie's drama club giving me a sneak peek of their school-wide performance this coming November.
Starring our fabulous resident starlet, Alex Mitchell!
